The rapid growth of technology in security- safety- and mission-critical sectors is driving the need for enhanced rigour in applying process standards during the development lifecycle. The objectives and activities to be followed in the lifecycle phases differ concerning the safety integrity levels, and responsibility lies with the development team to understand and apply them appropriately.

Verification and Validation play a major role, including applying coding standards like MISRA and CERT. The use of qualified, integrated, and automated tools in the lifecycle phases is an aid for accomplishing the safety or security assessment with the required evidence.
